Nanna Ditzel was born in Copenhagen in 1923 and after qualifying at both the School of Arts and Crafts and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, established a design studio with Jørgen Ditzel. She created designs with her company right up until she died in June 2005. Nanna Ditzel used many kinds of new materials for her designs including foam rubber, wicker & fibreglass. She won a number of awards for her work, including the Gold Medal in the International Furniture Design Competition in 1990.
